Bengaluru to Munnar — 3 nights, by cab
Munnar is the longest drive on this list by a wide margin — close to 500 km, and realistically a full day behind the wheel each way. That makes it a three-night trip rather than a weekend one. What you get for the distance is the most complete tea landscape in South India, and a national park that shuts for two months a year exactly when many people try to visit.
Outstation trips run as a personal cab — the vehicle and driver are yours for the trip. Shared departures apply to airport and one-day getaway routes, not multi-day journeys.
Before you go
The Munnar route has 3 requirements that will actually stop your trip if missed, and a few smaller ones. These change from time to time — confirm before you travel.
Eravikulam closes 1 February to 31 March
The park shuts annually for the Nilgiri tahr calving season and reopens on 1 April. If Eravikulam is the reason you are going, February and March are the two months to avoid — nothing else in Munnar substitutes for it.
Eravikulam entry is booked online, in morning slots
Entry runs on timed slots from the morning through early afternoon, booked in advance at eravikulamnationalpark.in. Slots are limited and go quickly just after the park reopens in April.
This is a 3-night trip, not a weekend
At roughly 480 km and 9 to 10 hours each way, two nights leaves you one usable day for a two-day round trip. Three nights is the honest minimum, and four is more comfortable.
Interstate permit into Kerala
As with Wayanad, a commercial vehicle crossing into Kerala needs the relevant interstate permit and entry tax, handled by the operator.
Ghat driving above Adimali
The final climb into Munnar is a long series of hairpins. It is straightforward in daylight and unpleasant in the dark or in heavy rain — another argument for the early start.
Verified August 2026. Passes, caps and closures are revised from time to time — check the official source before travelling, and your QuicReach driver will confirm current conditions on the route.

Places worth the drive
Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai)
Home of the Nilgiri tahr, and the reason to check your dates — it closes for calving season. Entry is by online booking with morning slots.
Mattupetty Dam and Kundala Lake
The classic tea-and-water stretch above town, easily combined in one half-day.
Top Station
The highest viewpoint in the area, looking across into Tamil Nadu. Clear early mornings only.
Tea Museum, Nallathanni
A working explanation of processing, useful before or after an estate walk.
Attukal and Lakkam Falls
Roadside falls that are worth the stop after the monsoon and largely dry before it.
Anamudi
The highest peak in South India at 2,695 m, inside Eravikulam — visible from the park rather than climbable on a normal visit.
Bengaluru to Munnar: common questions
How far is Munnar from Bangalore by road?
Roughly 480 km, and 9 to 10 hours of driving in a car, typically via Salem and Coimbatore. It is by far the longest of the popular hill trips from Bengaluru, which is why it does not work as a two-night weekend — you would spend two of your three days in the car.
When is Eravikulam National Park closed?
It closes every year from 1 February to 31 March for the Nilgiri tahr calving season, reopening on 1 April. Entry the rest of the year is by advance online booking at eravikulamnationalpark.in, in timed morning slots that fill quickly right after the park reopens.
How many days do I need for Munnar from Bangalore?
Three nights minimum. That gives a full driving day in, two days in the hills, and a driving day back. With two nights you arrive tired, get one short day, and leave — for a 10-hour drive that is not a good trade.
What is the best time to visit Munnar?
September to May, with the caveat that Eravikulam is shut through February and March. The post-monsoon months from September are green and clear; April and May are warmer but the park is open and the tea slopes are at their best in the early light.
