Bengaluru to Coorg (Madikeri) — 2 nights, by cab
Coorg is the most forgiving of these trips — close enough for a genuine two-night weekend, entirely within Karnataka, and with no permit system to navigate. What it asks for instead is a willingness to drive between attractions, because the good things are scattered across the district rather than clustered in Madikeri.
Outstation trips run as a personal cab — the vehicle and driver are yours for the trip. Shared departures apply to airport and one-day getaway routes, not multi-day journeys.
Before you go
Nothing on this route will stop you at a checkpost, which makes it one of the simpler trips out of Bengaluru. A few things are still worth arranging ahead.
No permits or e-pass
Coorg is within Karnataka and has no district entry pass, no e-pass and no border tax. This is the simplest of the trips on this list from an admin point of view.
Dubare runs on morning slots
The elephant camp operates limited morning sessions and involves a boat crossing. Turning up in the afternoon means missing it entirely.
Monsoon road conditions
June to September brings heavy rain, leeches on forest walks and occasional landslides on the ghat sections. The district is beautiful then, but plan looser and keep the ghat driving in daylight.
Nagarhole safari booking
If you extend towards Nagarhole, safaris are booked through the forest department and sell out in season — arrange before you travel rather than on arrival.
Verified August 2026. Passes, caps and closures are revised from time to time — check the official source before travelling, and your QuicReach driver will confirm current conditions on the route.
A workable 2 nights plan

- Coffee estate walk in the late afternoon
Day 3
- Talakaveri and Bhagamandala if the sky is clear
- Start back by early afternoon
- Bengaluru by evening
Places worth the drive
Abbey Falls
Closest to Madikeri and the easiest to reach, so also the busiest. Best right after the monsoon.
Raja's Seat
The sunset point, with a garden and a view over the valleys. Arrive well before dusk for a spot at the rail.
Dubare Elephant Camp
A forest department camp on the Kaveri where you can watch the morning routine. Reached by boat crossing; morning slots only.
Namdroling Monastery, Bylakuppe
The Golden Temple — a large Tibetan monastic settlement about 35 km from Madikeri, and unlike anything else in the district.
Talakaveri and Bhagamandala
The source of the Kaveri, up a winding road with big views on a clear day.
Iruppu Falls and Nagarhole edge
South of Madikeri, pairs well with a wildlife detour if you have the third day.
Bengaluru to Coorg (Madikeri): common questions
How far is Coorg from Bangalore?
Madikeri is about 255 km from Bengaluru and takes 5 to 6 hours by car, usually via Mysuru or Hunsur. Attractions are spread across the district, so budget driving time within Coorg too — Dubare and Bylakuppe are each roughly an hour from Madikeri.
Do I need any permit to visit Coorg?
No. Coorg is within Karnataka, so there is no e-pass, no district entry permit and no interstate border tax. The only advance booking worth doing is for a Nagarhole safari, if you plan to extend that way.
Is 2 nights enough for Coorg?
Yes, and it is the natural length. Two nights covers Madikeri, Abbey Falls, Dubare and Bylakuppe at a reasonable pace. A third night makes sense only if you want Talakaveri and a wildlife morning as well.
What is the best time to visit Coorg?
October to March is the comfortable window — clear weather, full waterfalls after the rains, and good coffee-estate light. June to September is dramatic and green but wet, with slower driving on the ghats.
